The True Story of a Remarkable Kurdish Couple’s Mehr from Kurdistan
Narrated by: Mohammad Fattahi
Azar 1404 (November–December 2025)

In an age when mehr is usually measured in coins of gold and grams of metal, two young lovers from Kamyaran, deep in the heart of Kurdistan, sealed their marriage with an entirely different measure
planting 2,725 oak saplings in the sacred soil of the Zagros Mountains. The photograph that has gone viral across Iran these past days .is not merely a picture of a bride and groom; it is the portrait of an eternal covenant (see above)
A covenant that, instead of weighing each other down with gold coins, sowed seeds of hope into the wounded earth of Zagros—so that the roots of their love might intertwine forever with the roots of oak trees, and their branches cast shade over the skies of Zagros and Iran for all eternity. They did not say, “My mehr shall be so many coins of gold.”
They said:
“My mehr is the life of the forest, the life of the soil, the life of generations yet unborn.”They did not say, “Let us hold our wedding in a luxurious hall.”
They said: “Let us celebrate beneath the open sky of Zagros, beside the saplings we have just planted, so that our laughter may mingle with the wind rustling through oak leaves.”These two lovebirds did not spread their wings over a golden cage; they opened them wide across the green expanse of Zagros
They showed us that when love becomes lasting, it no longer embraces only two souls—it embraces the forest, the river, the birds, and the future itself. They declared: this is the beginning of an entirely new chapter in the history of love
a chapter in which mehr is no longer a burden, but a pair of wings—wings to lift nature into flight
a chapter in which every green shoot that rises is a new wedding ring slipped onto the finger of the earth
a chapter in which every wedding becomes a rebirth for Zagros.O youth of Iran
O lovers of the world
Look upon these two devoted souls from Kamyaran

area by a Kurdish bride and groom with smilling faces and happy hearts
They have taught us that one can be in love with a person and, at the same time, remain in love with the earth
that one can bind oneself in marriage and simultaneously heal the broken bonds of past and present
that one can celebrate and, in the same breath, celebrate nature.Let us carry this movement from Kurdistan to every corner of Iran and the world
from this day forward, may a forest be revived at every wedding.Let every mehr be a green hope
Let every wedding ring be a ring of trees around the body of the earth. And you, O Zagros
O great kind mother of western Iran
These two pure-hearted youths have breathed fresh spirit into your ancient body. Now every breeze that twists through the oak leaves whispers their names
Every raindrop that falls upon the young saplings prays blessings upon them.May the memory of these two pure souls be blessed
May Zagros be blessed for falling in love once more
May Zagros be blessed for teaching us that love can also be written this way
with hands full of soil and a heart full of trees.
Be evergreen and everlasting
